Vish Amrut (Lock-&-Key) was one of my favourite childhood games.
Today, I’ll tell you how it helps me support people in making difficult changes...
Vish means poison. (death)
Amrut means elixir/ nectar. (life)
I wonder why it was called Lock-&-Key in English...
Anyway...
In the game, you start as a free player.
Free to move and run.
There's one player in the game with the vish (poison).
If that player touches you and says "Vish"...
You lose your freedom.
You cannot move.
Until...another free player comes and gives you some amrut (elixir).
And then you can share some amrut with other locked players, too.
The game ends when all players are poisoned/ locked.
OR when the player with the vish (poison) gives up?
(Do I remember the end correctly?)
As an adult, this game is often played in my brain (and in my clients' brains)
An unhelpful thought is the player with the vish (poison).
It sneaks up on you, catches you off guard and suddenly...
You're locked!
...unable to move forward and do what you want to do.
You're trapped in that moment with doubt, fear or overwhelm.
(Probably scrolling on the couch or bingeing on food/work)
But just like in the game, there's always a chance for amrut (elixir) to come your way.
Some players in your brain who can give you the amrut (elixir):
- Ms. Helpful Reframed Thought
- Mr. Useful Idea
- Ms. Self-Affirmation
- Mr. Past Experience
- Ms. Unseen Little Win
- Mr. Hidden Superpower
- And more...
BUT...
What if all such players never joined the game in your brain?
Or what if all of them are poisoned/locked?
Who will give you the amrut (elixir) then?
Friends, family, internet...and me. :)
As a behaviour change specialist, I help people find and generate lots of amrut inside and outside them.
It is fun to create awareness of those moments when the vish (unhelpful stuff) has taken hold...
...and look for ways to bring in the elixir that restores freedom, movement, and possibility.
It's a process of unlocking—one thought, one feeling, one action at a time.
And the best part?
Unlike the game, the goal with behaviour change isn't just to survive by waiting for a touch of amrut... (a temporary fix/ plan/ system/habit)
...it is to thrive, to keep the flow of the amrut strong, so that you get unstuck quickly, no matter how many times the vish locks you.
If you'd like to build a huge supply of your amrut...
I'd love to be your behaviour change partner.
It is possible for you to close the gap between:
Your plans (information) —> Your actions (implementation)
Your present self —> Your future self
